Job Duties
The Corrections Administration Manager provides executive‑level leadership and strategic oversight for major functions within the Division of Administration, serving as a key advisor to the Deputy Director for Administration. The role oversees Central Administration unit including ACA Accreditation, FOIA and Records Management, and Grants Administration ensuring efficiency, compliance, and strong operational support across the agency.
This position leads high‑priority strategic initiatives and projects, turning executive direction into actionable plans and driving continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with executive leaders, correctional operations, and external partners, the Manager promotes data‑informed decision‑making, strengthens accountability, and advances modernization efforts. Additionally, the position represents the Deputy Director on assigned initiatives, guides cross‑functional workgroups, and manages complex projects to support emerging organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Extensive experience managing administrative, operational, or business functions in a correctional system, state government agency, or other large, complex public sector organization.
Experience leading teams, managing multiple programs or business functions, and overseeing complex projects or organizational initiatives.
Knowledge of administrative operations such as budgeting, finance, human resources, procurement, records management, grants administration, or related business functions.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience developing and implementing operational improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen accountability, and support organizational goals.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and effectively communicate requirements to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships with executive leadership, managers, employees, government agencies, and external partners.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data to evaluate operations, prepare reports, and support executive decision-making.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and executive correspondence.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work independently on sensitive or high-profile assignments.
Ability to successfully complete Virginia Conflict of Interest requirements in accordance with the Code of Virginia.
Additional Considerations
Advanced knowledge, training, certification, or experience in public administration, business administration, public safety, organizational leadership, or a related field.
Familiarity with Commonwealth of Virginia policies, systems, and administrative processes.
Demonstrated knowledge of VADOC operations, organizational structure, policies, and operating procedures.
Experience supporting executive operations, strategic planning, organizational modernization, operational analysis, or enterprise project implementation within a large governmental or public sector environment.
Experience with performance reporting, process improvement, budgeting, operational coordination, or administrative management functions.
