Job Duties

The Building Manager ensures the repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance tasks/guidelines are met with minimum disruption to building occupants, managing a multi-craft team and working closely with outside building management firms in the operation and budget development for assigned properties. The Building Manager reports directly to the BFM Section Chief and is an integral part of the building’s operation team for the DGS controlled facilities.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Administers and manages assigned building maintenance teams.
  • Plans and directs maintenance and operations programs supporting maintenance, repairs and improvements for plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, controls, life safety, and electrical systems for all buildings in the team group.
  • Provides management oversight and supervision of the team through the team leaders for assigned areas.
  • Provides direct and indirect supervision of multi-disciplined trades and technical staff.
  • Prepares and monitors team operating budgets for activities.
  • Plans and directs special work requests in support of the tenant agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications, and operating manuals.
  • Considerable experience and skill in at least one building trade.
  • Considerable experience in administration of physical plant operations and budgeting.
  • Experience in supervising and managing a diverse group of trades technicians in a building management or construction related field.
  • Experience with automated building management systems, computer-based work order management systems, Microsoft Office products, and other computer experience.
  • Experience communicating with a variety of people, including tenants, vendors, contractors, and employees, both verbally and written.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Additional Considerations

  • Possession of a Journeyman or Masters Card in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.
  • Experience with multiple building-related trades.
  • Experience maintaining governmental or historical buildings.
  • Experience with contract administration.
