One satellite location, the Danville Science Center, operates in Danville, and another, the Northern Virginia Science Center, is currently under construction in Loudoun County with an anticipated open date of spring 2027.

Job Description:
The Science Museum is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Media Production Specialist to produce compelling multimedia content that inspires, informs and engages diverse audiences. In this role, you'll create and produce high-quality video, photography, animation and audio content that supports marketing, advertising, communications and educational initiatives across multiple platforms.
Working collaboratively with our Content and Communications teams, you'll help bring stories to life across digital, social, print and paid media channels while ensuring every piece of content reflects our brand standards and organizational mission.
You’ll capture photography and video at programs, events and special projects, and maintain an organized digital media library through editing, tagging and asset management. This position will also manage production equipment, coordinate media files and help identify opportunities to enhance the organization's visual storytelling through innovative content.
As a Media Production Specialist, you'll play an important role in telling stories that connect people with our mission. You'll have opportunities to work on a wide variety of creative projects, collaborate with talented professionals and produce meaningful content that reaches audiences across multiple platforms.

This position primarily follows a Monday–Friday schedule, but may be required to work evening or weekend events for photography purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
Technical video production skills, graphic design, illustration and animation skills required. Demonstrated ability to film and edit documentary and/or educational visual media using advanced production software and equipment. Ability to work productively and cooperatively within collaborative team-based production settings. Ability to work after hours and travel for on-site filming or photography when necessary. Experience converting file types, working with in-house media distribution software, working with content producers on technical needs, and displaying a strong understanding of vector based design and animation as well as basic lighting and audio. Photography skills needed. The ideal candidate has experience in technical video production, graphic design, illustration and animation, with a demonstrated ability to film and edit documentary and/or educational visual media using advanced production software and equipment. They should have experience converting file types, working with in-house media distribution software, and working with content producers on technical needs, as well as a strong understanding of vector based design and animation. The candidate should have photography skills and basic lighting and audio knowledge.
The candidate should have experience using Adobe After Effects, Premier, Final Cut, Illustrator, Photoshop, Maya, Adobe Audition and other production software for creating and editing media pieces for public distribution. Must be organized and detail oriented, self-motivated, have the ability to follow creative direction, adapt to changing priorities and critical deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously and display good communication skills.
Additional Considerations
A background in kinetic imaging, film, art or a related field is a plus. The candidate should have a strong portfolio/reel of works.
