Job Duties

Virginia Energy’s State Energy Office is seeking a qualified candidate to support the investment process and help manage the Virginia Clean Energy Investment Bank (VCEIB) portfolio under the direction of the VCEIB Director.

This role will be responsible for sourcing potential investments and supporting transactions from start to finish, including coordinating due diligence, conducting financial modeling and analysis, structuring deals, preparing investment memos, and more. The candidate will also assist in managing the bank’s existing investment portfolio.

Additional responsibilities may include drafting policies and procedures, building partnerships with public and private capital providers, and managing key stakeholders throughout the transaction process.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing the bank’s mission to mobilize public and private capital and accelerate the deployment of clean energy generation and energy infrastructure across Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in banking or investing, preferably with an emphasis on the energy sector
• Track record of initiating, managing, negotiating, and closing financial transactions
• Understanding of credit risk assessment and underwriting processes
• Proven ability to perform financial modeling and conduct thorough due diligence to evaluate potential investment opportunities
• Familiarity with relevant private-sector financial institutions, including commercial and regional banks; infrastructure funds; and private equity/venture capital firms
• Demonstrated ability to help manage stakeholder review processes
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively engaging diverse stakeholders
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Demonstrate ability to assemble, analyze and prepare reports covering complex financial data
• Ability to work with Agency management to communicate and present plans, budgets and recommendations effectively
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and meet constant deadlines
• Ability to apply computer skills in Windows, and network environments with specialized software
• Frequent travel required

Strong background in energy finance is highly desirable
