Job Duties

Position supervises a specialized, transitional caseload of supervisees re-entering the community from incarceration. Coordinates release planning for supervisees working with the Cognitive Reentry Community at a state major institution. Transitions with supervisees to a local probation and parole district(s) to establish community supervision. Provides the district with case management data on potential, high risk supervisees and supports the district on all VARI reentry matters. Reviews the case management work of staff with reentry responsibilities at both the institution and district(s). Serves as a liaison between the prison, community corrections, and outside agencies. Participates in the local reentry council. Facilitates reentry programs and coordinates family reunification seminars. Escorts supervisees on community transition visits to locate employment, housing, and social services.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of the adult criminal justice system, case management and counseling techniques. Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with staff, probationers, community resources, and the public. Ability to manage time and prioritize work assignments to meet required timelines and goals. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Additional Considerations

Experience preparing written reports and presenting reports to official outside audiences. Experience conducting interviews to gather information. Experience working directly with adult probationers/parolees providing program management and reentry planning. Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Science, Counseling or related field or equivalent applicable experience or training. Experience facilitating offender treatment groups. Experience working in a probation and parole district office.
