Job Duties

We’re looking for a collaborative, customer-focused team member who enjoys
helping others, building positive working relationships, and finding practical solutions
to meet purchasing needs. The Buyer will work closely with staff across the Office of
Epidemiology to provide responsive, accurate, and friendly purchasing support while
ensuring requests are handled efficiently and in accordance with applicable policies
and procedures.

This position follows prescribed procedures to procure supplies, equipment and services for the agency, with limited purchasing authority, volume and variety. Secures market information regarding quality, performance, problems and pricing. Reviews requisitions and specifications to determine the appropriate method of procurement. Writes Quick Quotes, solicits bids, and evaluates and awards purchases as instructed. Monitors orders and expedites for delivery. May perform some general administrative tasks. The Office of Epidemiology is looking to add a Buyer to the Epi Admin Team. This position is part of the purchasing team that processes purchase requests and utilizes small purchase charge cards for the office's small buying needs.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple
requests and priorities. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a willingness to work collaboratively are important to success in this role. Whether assisting a colleague with a purchase request, coordinating with vendors, or navigating purchasing processes, the Buyer plays an important role in helping the Office of Epidemiology’s teams get the resources they need to do their work.

Minimum Qualifications

- Knowledge of procurement laws, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of automated procurement systems
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard accounting principles and guidelines
- Ability to interpret and apply established policies, guidelines and procedures
- Ability to prepare, maintain and reconcile financial reports and data
- Proficiency and experience with the use of basic computer operating systems to include Word, Excel, Power Point and Access

- ​Knowledge of state and agency procurement requirements​
