Job Duties

The Department of Juvenile Justice is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth and strengthen families and communities across the Commonwealth.

DJJ's Division of Education is seeking a qualified Assistant Principal to provide visionary, instructional, and operational leadership that supports the school community and aligns with the Commonwealth's educational standards, statutes, and program certification requirements. The Assistant Principal will support the Principal and leadership teams in aligning instructional priorities with the Division's Strategic Plan, analyzing academic and behavioral data to elevate instruction, and building teacher capacity through targeted professional development, coaching, and timely feedback. Working to foster a safe, equitable, and inclusive learning environment, the Assistant Principal will model high expectations, promote positive student behavior and accountability, and maintain clear, open communication with staff, students, and families to ensure student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Earned a master's degree from an accredited institution.

Licensure:
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

(1) Has a current endorsement in administration and supervision preK-12 (2) Has satisfied the requirements for the school leaders licensure assessment specified by the Virginia Board of Education.

Experience:
Completed three years of successful, full-time experience in an instructional personnel position that requires licensure in Virginia

Additional Considerations

Experience working in a secure facility, alternative school setting, or with at-risk youth preferred. Experience in data analysis, teacher evaluation, and instructional coaching preferred.
