Job Duties

This position is open to current State of Virginia employees only. The Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking to hire an hourly/wage License and ID Tech in the Driver License and ID Work Center. This is a technical position in a high-volume DMV production unit responding to mail and telephone inquiries for service; responds to and provides guidance on routine and non-routine licensing inquiries to DMV Customer Service Center, in addition to other internal and external customers via telephone, written, and Internet correspondence. Participates as required in program initiatives and activities designed to enhance work center processes, and to expedite production. This position is also responsible for determining an applicant’s eligibility for a Virginia’s driver’s license or a commercial driver’s license. Advises citizens of requirements in writing or by telephone and updates the automated records in a timely manner.

This position’s schedule is flexible, consisting of three 8-hour days and one 5-hour day between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. for a total of 29 hours per week. Once fully trained, the 5-hour shift will be scheduled on rotating Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

•Experience interpreting and explaining guidelines, regulations, policies, and procedures to customers
•Skilled in the use of personal computers, printers, scanners, copiers, multi-line phones, and the Microsoft Office Suite
•Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with others both orally and through written correspondence
•Ability to analyze records with attention to detail; collaborate with colleagues and management to make informed decisions
•Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

**Must be available to work Saturdays on a rotating basis and must be available to work until 5:30 on weekdays.

Additional Considerations

•Experience using DMV Systems (CSS)
•Experience in a work center setting, working with courts, driving schools, or other state/local government agencies
