Job Duties
The Virginia Veterans Services Foundation is an independent State agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia charged with supporting the needs of veterans and their families. The Foundation provides funding, to supplement federal and state funding, to the Virginia Department of Veterans Services for behavioral health, rehabilitation services, and support; veterans’ education, transition, and employment, four state-of-the art long term care facilities, and operations of three veterans’ cemeteries. Funds to support these operations are raised by the Foundation through corporate and private donations, legacy giving and grants. The Foundation is governed and administered by an appointed Board of Trustees.
The Executive Director is an at will employee and reports to the Board Chair and is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations and activities of the Foundation. Key responsibilities include the creation and oversight of fundraising and development activities, developing long-range strategies to increase awareness of the Foundation’s mission and vision, managing the organization’s annual budget, and collaborating with leadership of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. The incumbent will serve as partner with other state agencies to further the mission of the Foundation.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in non-profit Board relations, program management, staff supervision, program development, and budget management as related to programs.
Experience in special events, traditional, and endowment fundraising, with demonstrated success in securing gifts and contributions from individuals and corporations.
Budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
Experience in program development, program management, staff supervision and management.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, and community members.
Excellent organizational skills including planning, delegating, and task facilitation.
Excellent communication skills including written and public speaking skills with the ability to effectively represent the Foundation to diverse audiences.
Ability to convey a vision of the Foundation’s strategic plan to the Board, staff, and government officials.
Proficiency in technology and digital platforms for marketing, communications, and operations.
Prior military service or spouse of a veteran or extensive experience working full time with other veteran services organizations.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the veteran community.
Previous experience in the public sector.
Comprehensive education and experience in management, finance, or business.
