Job Duties
The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Military Science Training and Readiness Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). This NCO position will report to the Professor of Military Science/Army ROTC Department Head, will be a member of the VMI Professional Faculty, and will serve as the Training NCO for one of four Military Science Branches in the Marshall New Market (MNMB) Battalion. This involves training of up to 200 college juniors in the Army ROTC program.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assists in the coordination and processing of Cadet medical requirements to include but not limited to medical determinations, waivers, physicals, and remedials;
Prepares commissioning and accessions documentation for Cadets;
Organizing, supervising and scheduling training activities;
Maintaining training/classroom equipment and ensuring training sites/facilities are prepared /scheduled to support training requirements;
Establish and maintain proficiency in applications to include Microsoft Word and Excel, CCIMMS, CONCORD, DODMERB, iPERMS, and ENTRINSIK;
Becoming familiar with the use of TAMIS; CCTMS and any other training/training support systems as required for tracking and recording completion of training requirements and preparing required reports;
Performing other administrative duties as directed;
Serving as a mentor to Cadets;
Administrative and Training Assistant;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have active/reserve military service and recently served successfully in the grade of sergeant or higher; present a high level of military bearing; possess a minimum of a high school diploma; possess a thorough knowledge of the Army organizational structure, mission objectives, function, procedures, agency regulations, and policy pertaining to the Department of the Army personnel and administrative systems, preferably gained through Army experience; possess computer skills with IBM compatible PCs and familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer; have a favorably adjudicated National Agency Check /Local
Agency Check (NAC/LC) with Secret clearance and/or be able to pass state background check prior to hiring.
Additional Considerations
Working hours may vary and include occasional evening weekend duties. This is a 10-month full time position and includes a full benefits package. The incumbent will wear a military uniform and observe military and VMI customs and courtesies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possess an Associates/Bachelor's degree; meet US. Army Regulations for height/weight and physical fitness standards; possess a level of physical fitness and conditioning that allows participation with Cadets during physical training.
