Job Duties
This position plans, coordinates, and manages the information management and disclosure activities of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Position ensures agency compliance with applicable records management and information dissemination laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The FOIA Compliance Specialist identifies operational inefficiencies, develops feasible alternatives, and implements changes/enhancements to agency processes, policies, and procedures in order to maximize operational effectiveness. Position provides analytical support on special studies and operational support to DPOR staff. Hires, instructs, trains, and evaluates subordinates.
Minimum Qualifications
- Direct experience processing FOIA or public records requests.
- Experience working with public records, records management programs, or document governance
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze problems and data for policy and decision-making; to develop operational goals and objectives; and to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Experience interpreting statutes, regulations, or policies.
- Experience conducting research, drafting correspondence, or preparing official responses
Additional Considerations
• Certification in records management (e.g., CRM, CRA, or state RIM certification).
• Experience with electronic records management systems (ERMS) or FOIA tracking software.
• Experience in a government, regulatory, or compliance-focused environment.
• Training in information governance, data privacy, or legal research.

As part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a crucial role in promoting the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified individuals start businesses and pursue their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor. They are responsible for regulating various professions and occupations, including architects and contractors, cosmetologists, and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.
This position requires regular on-site attendance at our designated work location
