About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking a seasoned Classification/Compensation Analyst Senior in our Human Resources Division (HR) located at our Administrative Headquarters (SPHQ) in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This role is ideal for a professional who enjoys analytical work, policy development, project leadership, and who is motivated by improving processes and supporting a mission-driven organization that serves communities across Virginia. Strong commitment to integrity, public service, and employee support. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Performing advanced analytical and professional work in support of VSP’s classification, compensation, salary administration, and workforce structure programs.
• Functioning as a senior subject matter expert and ensuring consistent application of federal and state laws, Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) policies, Commonwealth protocols, and Agency procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of human resource principles related to classification, compensation, job analysis, job evaluation, salary administration, organizational structure, career progression, and HR data analysis.

Skills:

• Skill in researching, analyzing, documenting, and presenting classification and compensation information using Microsoft Office applications.

Abilities:

• Ability to interpret and apply HR policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
• Ability to conduct and respond to salary surveys.
• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
• Ability to prepare clear reports.
• Ability to develop data‑supported recommendations.
• Ability to benchmark salaries using market data, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to consult with managers, supervisors, employees, and HR staff.
• Ability to use sound judgment.
• Ability to manage projects independently.
• Ability to prioritize work.
• Ability to collaborate effectively.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.
• Progressively responsible experience in human resources.
• Experience in classification, compensation, salary administration, job analysis, job evaluation, or related HR functions.
• Experience analyzing policies, procedures, workflows, position information, compensation data, salary survey results, or workforce information and preparing written recommendations.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications to analyze, document, and present information.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• SHRM‑CP or SHRM‑SCP certification preferred.
