Job Duties

VMI is accepting applications for a part-time Police Sergeant. Provides general supervision, technical assistance, and administrative control over a group of patrol officers assigned to specific law enforcement tasks; schedules, deploys, and assigns personnel in accordance with department policies and applicable service requirements; conducts roll calls or briefings; observes, evaluates, develops, advises, and counsels personnel reference job performance; performs law enforcement duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have previously demonstrated or possess the ability to:
- Train, lead and evaluate the performance of police officers
- Review and investigate crimes and/or complaints
- Review and approve records and reports
- Effectively develop incident action plans
- Exercise good judgment in emergency situations
- Effectively coordinate and develop events, shift assignments, and personnel coverage
- Apply community policing principles and practices to resolve issues
- Monitor employees during probationary/evaluation periods to measure adherence to policy, procedures and protocol
- Extensive experience as a Law Enforcement Officer is required.
- Applicant must be a certified law enforcement officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License
- High School Graduate or equivalent is required.

Additional Considerations

This is an in-person job. Work hours vary based on the needs of the Police Department.
