Job Duties

This full-time, tenure-track position works closely with the Chairperson of the Educational Leadership Department and other faculty teaching in the program. This position will possess expertise in the guiding principles of educational leadership, including CPED (Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate) practices for the Dissertation in Practice, with an appreciation for the mission and context of Minority-Serving Institutions. The position reports to the Chairperson of the Educational Leadership Department. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to infusing equity, social justice, and diversity into pedagogical practices. The department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and service toward building equitable and inclusive scholarly environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Instruction
▪ Teach online and traditional graduate and doctoral-level courses within the Department of Educational Leadership.
▪ Assist in the development and coordination of courses taught, including alignment with program and accreditation standards.
▪ Serve as the program coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Special Education Leadership.
Dissertation & Student Mentoring
▪ Serve as a member of students’ dissertation committees, applying CPED (Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate) principles and practices to the Dissertation in Practice (DiP).
▪ Serve as an academic advisor.
Program & Community Engagement
▪ Work with university and external programs to strengthen data collection capabilities and coordinate additional Educational Leadership concentration/area-of-study activities.
▪ Initiate and collaborate in research to support continued program improvement.
▪ Build capacity and partnerships with school districts in Virginia.






*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.

 

Minimum Qualifications

▪ A doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Supervision or related field. No ABDs considered.
▪ At least three years of experience teaching graduate-level courses in an Educational Leadership program at an accredited institution.
▪ Previous experience working in PreK-12 public education.
▪ Experience in program evaluation for the purpose of accreditation (i.e., SACSCOC, CAEP).
▪ Knowledge of relevant accreditation and/or professional association/entity requirements relative to academic programs, including assessment and accreditation practices.
▪ Knowledge of and experience applying CPED practices to the Dissertation in Practice (DiP).
▪ Online teaching certification and experience.
▪ Evidence of scholarly initiatives, peer-reviewed publications, and experience conducting research within the past 5 years.
▪ Proven record of successful grantsmanship and evidence of working collaboratively with internal and external partners within the past 5 years.
▪ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
▪ Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and learning management systems (i.e., Canvas).




Additional Considerations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

▪ Endorsement in Commonwealth of Virginia Administration and Supervision PreK-12, or ability to obtain such endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
▪ Experience with CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) assessment and accreditation processes.
▪ Experience serving as a university coordinator for clinical internships.
▪ Proven experience securing external funding within the last 5 years (e.g., grants, sponsored programs).
▪ Experience serving as a methodologist and/or committee member on doctoral dissertations.
▪ Experience directing or coordinating institutional/program-level assessment and accreditation processes.
