Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
The Dental Review Coordinator serves as the primary reviewer for the Board of Dentistry responsible for assessing probable cause and ensuring that cases are directed toward an appropriate pathway for resolution of the complaint.
Minimum Qualifications
• General knowledge of all dental specialties and related health care professions.
• Knowledge of the principles of dental practice and healthcare delivery systems.
• Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the practice of dentistry and related professions.
• Knowledge of the disciplinary process, Health Practitioners’ Monitoring Program, and Prescription Monitoring Program.
• Knowledge of the Administrative Process Act and Freedom of Information Act.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze clinical cases and apply the laws and regulations for probable cause determination.
• Advanced computer literacy skills with the demonstrated ability to learn new systems and applications.
• Demonstrated keyboarding skills to accomplish tasks with speed and accuracy.
• Effective organization and communication skills.
• Ability to prepare and present case findings.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability to educate and/or instruct others in a formal teaching environment.
• Ability to work as part of a team to process cases at the probable cause level.
Additional Considerations
Demonstrated experience and ability navigating computer software applications and cloud-based applications to include Microsoft Office and Office365, IBM Box, My License Office (MLO).
