Based in South Chesterfield, the Richmond District consists of 14 counties (Amelia, Brunswick, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan and Prince George), four cities (Colonial Heights, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond) and 15 towns. The district is responsible for approximately 18,000 miles of road in Central Virginia making it VDOT’s largest roadway network for a District. Approximately 880 employees work within the Richmond District, which includes four Residency Offices and 27 Area Headquarters. The Richmond District has road and bridge toll facilities geographically located within it and is home to two Metropolitan Planning Organizations.
