DUTIES: This individual will analyze, investigate, and prosecute suspected violations of the new Consumer Data Protection Act, the Virginia Consumer Protection Act, and other state and federal consumer privacy statutes. In addition, the individual will have secondary responsibility for analyzing, investigating, and prosecuting violations of other state and federal consumer protection laws as needed. Must have excellent writing skills and be prepared to appear in the appropriate state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators. Will also work with counterparts in other states and federal agencies, assist in drafting official opinions, and review proposed legislation.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases; well-developed oral and written communication skills; and the ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer privacy or consumer protection matters. International Association of Privacy Professionals’ Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification is desired and can be obtained after employment. Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
