Job Duties
Are you knowledgeable of current and emerging energy technologies, policies, and procedures? Do you have experience leading energy projects and managing energy-related programs? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, State Energy Office, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as the Director of Grid Reliability and Power Generation. This multifaceted role will ensure that the State Energy Office can provide a unified approach to identifying and solving the Commonwealth’s energy needs and issues by collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement energy plans and policies. This position is currently approved to work a Hybrid telework schedule with four days in the office and one day of telework.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position:
• In-depth understanding of energy technologies and policies in the areas of transmission and distribution, grid resilience, renewable energy, natural gas generation & distribution, nuclear energy, utility operation & regulation, emerging technologies, efficiency, demand response, energy performance contracting, transportation, and other similar areas
• Incumbent must have proven leadership experience
• Must be capable of meeting key objectives using data driven results through assessments and analyses of energy sector supply, demand, production, transportation, and efficiencies
• Must possess proven problem-solving skills with a creative and innovative approach
• Proven knowledge and experience in project management in an energy sector
• Direct experience with transmission and distribution system planning and a deep understanding of grid resilience challenges
• A basic understanding of PJM, the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO), market operations, generation dispatching through Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP), load forecasting, interconnection, and the Regional Transmission Expansion Plan (RTEP) process
• Understanding of gird challenges and solutions; deployment of smart grid technology, renewable energy grid integration, and transmission congestion
• Knowledge of energy rates, regulations, and tariffs
• 5+ years of experience leading energy projects and managing energy-related programs
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. In addition, the individual accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test and successfully complete reference checks as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.

• Experience working with a utility, electric grid operator, or related organization is preferred
