Statement of the Position
The Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership within the School of Education at Norfolk State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Administration and Supervision P-12 (F0015) position, with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. We seek candidates that possess a Commonwealth of Virginia Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision P-12 or eligible for licensure in Virginia by endorsement, possess knowledge of CAEP accreditation standards, and have experience in school building or central office level leadership.

Overview of the Department
Norfolk State University’s Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership
(SESL) is housed in the School of Education (SOE). The department offers the multidimensional Master of Arts Urban Education degree with concentrations in Administration and Supervision PK-12 (On-line) and subject area concentrations in Biology, Chemistry, English, History, and Mathematics. The department also offers the Master of Arts in Counseling Education degree with concentrations in School
Counseling PK-12, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Rehabilitation Counseling. These programs assist in-service and pre-service practitioners interested in acquiring state endorsements and enhancing their professional development.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in administration, leadership, curriculum development, instructional supervision, finance, personnel management, and ethical professional practices. The candidate will contribute to developing curricula to
meet NELP and CAEP standards and demonstrate expertise in communication, interpersonal, and clinical skills and techniques. The candidate will advise and mentor graduate students, hold office hours as designated by the University, engage in program
development, curriculum reviews, and assessment of student learning, provide support for program coordination and administration (e.g., recruitment, admissions, programming), and serve on Departmental, School, and University committees. The journals and/or academic presses, and participate in other scholarly activities to secure external funding.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate in education with a concentration in P-12 administration and supervision or related field from an accredited college/university is necessary. Candidates must possess a Commonwealth of Virginia Professional License with an
endorsement in Administration and Supervision P-12 or eligible for licensure in Virginia by endorsement. Candidates should have experience in building and/or central office leadership and expert knowledge of current leadership theories, curriculum development
and instructional supervision, policies, organizational structures, trends, and issues at the P-12 level.

Additional Considerations

Preference will be given to candidates that have five or more years of school building or central office level leadership and active involvement in professional associations and/or partnerships in the field. Candidates that have prior teaching experience at the college or
university level, considerable practice with online course delivery modalities, and possess national online instructor certification credentials (ACUE, QM, LERN, etc.) are highly preferred.
