DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Department of Engineering Technology at Norfolk State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty position consistent with prior rank or experience of Assistant Professor in Construction Management(Civil) Engineering Technology, beginning Fall 2025. The Department is fully accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). The Department offers an Associate in Science degree in Architectural Drafting, and the Bachelor’s in Science degree in Construction Management Engineering Technology; Computer Engineering Technology; and Electronics Engineering Technology. The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate courses in construction management engineering technology:
including surveying, engineering mechanics (statics, strength of materials), structures
analysis, soil mechanics, materials of construction, methods of construction, building
codes and specification, problem analysis and planning, organization and supervision of
construction, construction supervision, and construction and project management, cost
estimates, structural planning and design. - Conduct laboratory activities as appropriate and maintain equipment and facilities
associated with the courses taught. - Develop partnerships with construction industry to assure internships and field trips for
students. - Contribute to construction management program, courses, and curriculum development.
- Advise/mentor students and participate in recruitment activities.
- Participate in ongoing assessment and accreditation activities.
- Perform scholarly activities and submit grant proposals for external funding to acquire
financial support. - Perform other duties as assigned by department chair.
- Maintain and advance the industrial advisory board associated with the construction
management program.
Minimum Qualifications
The desired candidate must:
Terminal degree(i.e. Ed.D., Ph.D., etc.) for a tenure track position in construction
management or civil engineering, or a closely related field (Degree must be from a
regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university).
Additional Considerations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in teaching on the higher education level and ABET accreditation experience.
- Experience with Blackboard or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing.
- Have at least three years of relevant Construction industry experience.
- Ability to maintain and advance relationships with professionals in the construction
industry for program improvement. - Evidence of effective communication skills (including oral, written, and interpersonal)
- Demonstrated student-oriented mindset, including the ability to advise and mentor
students and promote the department. - Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the
professional community.
