Job Duties:

The WWRC Rehabilitation Counseling Department is looking for a qualified individual to serve as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. In partnership with the rehabilitation team assigned to each VR consumer, the WWRC rehabilitation counselor will be accountable for planning, developing, implementing, and managing vocationally focused, comprehensive services for consumers with disabilities attending WWRC and leading an interdisciplinary rehabilitation program team for each consumer served to include, but not limited to, the VR consumer enrolled at the WWRC a behavioral support specialist team member, and a representative from WWRC medical, vocational, and residential staff working with the consumer and the home office DRS counselor. The counselor will also be responsible for case documentation and electronic file management.

To meet the expectations of this position, the incumbent must have access to personally identifiable and confidential information about Agency consumers and/or Agency staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of the social, economic, medical, vocational, and emotional challenges that affect individuals with disabilities; expertise in interviewing, evaluating, and counseling; and methods and tools for career counseling and exploration. In accordance with 34 CFR 361.10, 34 CFR 361.11, and Virginia’s Combined State Plan under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), applicants are required to have a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field.


Additional Considerations:

Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and the professional community,
Ability to organize and manage multiple and occasionally unrelated responsibilities promptly, prioritize duties, and exercise responsible judgment with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated skills in leading and facilitating effective team processes, as well as listening, providing guidance and feedback, and managing meetings.
Working knowledge of Windows-based computer software.

Current CRC credential

Applicants within a semester of completing a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field will be considered if the application is accompanied by a transcript that verifies the anticipated graduation date.
