Job Duties

VMI is accepting applications for a full-time Grounds Equipment Operator in the Facilities Maintenance Department.
Job Description:
• Operates trucks, tractors, backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers, snowplows and other equipment related to preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Responds to emergency situations as needed during and after hours to include snow and ice removal
• Apply herbicides, insecticide, and fertilizers to the turf, yards, fields, and plants (certifications required with this position)
• Operate JLG lift and bucket truck lift for tree/shrub trimming (certification required) and/or removal
• Maintain and perform minor repair to equipment
• Perform function set ups per work order and diagrams
• Support special events after hours and on weekends
• Identified as essential personnel

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• Working skill in the use of hand tools
• Ability to operate motor vehicles
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor
• Ability to work from heights; preferred
Other Qualifications:
• JLG Lift and Bucket Truck certificate (required within 6 months from date of employment);

Additional Considerations

Preferred Qualifications:
• High school diploma/GED
• Knowledge of arithmetic, units of measure and equipment maintenance
• Basic computer skills
