Job Duties
The Science Museum is currently seeking Part Time Housekeepers to join our Housekeeping Team to ensure that the Science Museum is clean on a daily basis, as well as for special events.
As a Housekeeper, you will be responsible for following the Science Museum's cleaning protocols to ensure that all areas are clean and provide guests with the best possible experience. You will also be responsible for cleaning the event spaces before, during, and after each event.
The Science Museum has four levels that are cleaned and maintained throughout the day, as well as dedicated event spaces that require regular attention. It is important that you have considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials, as well as sanitation standards for a public facility. You should also be familiar with safety practices when using chemicals and cleaning equipment, and have experience operating power cleaning equipment such as buffers and vacuum cleaners. Additionally, you should be able to perform a range of cleaning tasks, including lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds), frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching. Good oral communication skills are essential for this position.
This position requires availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.
Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12 month period. No state benefits are provided.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals for a wide variety of surfaces and materials and sanitation standards for a public facility. Knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment.
Working skill in the operation of power cleaning equipment such as buffers and vacuum-cleaners. Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, to include lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 pounds); frequent standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching required. Good oral communication skills.
Additional Considerations
Prior experience housekeeping experience, preferably in a large multi-building environment.
