Job Duties
Directs activities of the Centralized Mail Distribution Center Statewide Mail Reviewers. Ensures facility safety and security by directing the established processes for accurately documenting receipt and shipment of all inmate incoming legal correspondence, books, and publications in support of the searches conducted by the intelligence officers to intercept drugs and other contraband before forwarding items to the facilities for issuance to the inmates. Ensures all mail is handled according to applicable federal, state, and departmental regulations and procedures. Develops, updates, and maintains all necessary documentation and reports. Assists with investigations of all suspicious mailings received and/or observations of crimes or violations of laws, rules, regulations, and policies. Reports incidents to unit supervisors and the Office of Law Enforcement Services as outlined in DOC policy. Leads and counsel’s staff. Coordinates work schedules and assignments to ensure adequate staffing coverage. Contributes to administration of performance management systems for staff. Conducts ongoing inspections to maintain, security, sanitation, and good order of the distribution facility. Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent. Ability to sufficiently receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions. Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration within VADOC
Additional Considerations
Experience supervising corrections staff; experience in planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management; experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders; investigative or security related experiences with contraband detection. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. Knowledge and experience with Evidence Based Practices.
