Summary

  • Instruction: As the Diesel Technology Instructor at the TCAT Chattanooga campus, your primary responsibility will be teaching this crucial course. You will facilitate the classroom instructional process, evaluate students, monitor their progress, assign final grades, and maintain attendance and grade records. Additionally, you will counsel and advise students on academic preparation and career goals and work to retain students in the program.
  • Develop and maintain a site on the college's Learning Management System (eLearn) platform where class documents (syllabi, classroom information, quizzes, tests, etc.) are stored and available for students to access anytime.
  • Develop and maintain the program curriculum. Maintain an active advisory committee that meets twice a year and covers industry and program needs.
  • Professional Growth: Remain current within assigned instruction, related occupational areas, and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college, divisional, professional development, and in-service activities; and participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
  • Service to Students: In addition to teaching, the faculty member is expected to play a vital role in program development. This includes maintaining an up-to-date program and curriculum, maintaining technical skills, and acquiring new technical skills as the industry evolves. You will also be responsible for assisting program graduates with employment opportunities.

Holistic Student Support

  • Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, TCAT Student Services, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, the Center for Access and Disability Services.
  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

  • Provides equity-minded support in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Division that aligns with the college's values.
  • Embraces and promotes the college's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and supports the TCAT Division's efforts to utilize inclusive best practices.
  • Provides equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff.

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Demonstrate teaching excellence by using evidence-based instructional practices that foster student learning.
  • Adapt tests and refine new pedagogical approaches that fit Chattanooga State's campus context.
  • Structure student experiences to ensure equity, belongingness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in the Diesel Service Industry, and a graduate of a one-year diploma program or five years experience as a Diesel technician
    • Willing to complete ASE Master Certification within the first year of employment
  • Evidence of ability to teach students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to remain current in the Diesel Service Industry
  • Basic Computer Skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree
  • Diesel Service Excellence (ASE) Master certification
  • Prior teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Computer Skills with Microsoft products

Salary:  Commensurate with experience and according to salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents.
