Title: Financial Aid Specialist

Job Summary

Assist with the financial aid process so that a student may receive financial aid to attend college. Process documents, manage workflows, and provide customer service to students and other JSCC employees.

Job Duties

  • 25% - Communication/Documentation: Manage email inquiries to FAO. Assist/monitor Workflow; scanning and indexing. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Monitor incomplete files. Prepare applicants’ files for verification and awarding by the FA Officers. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Serve students at front counter when Assistants are unavailable and provide telephone support. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Prepare Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals for the Director/Student Aid & Awards Committee review. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Order offices supplies. Maintain FA calendar for appointments/meetings. Coordinate all events; set up, advertising. (FAFSA Frenzies, GE, etc.) - (Marginal)
  • 5% - Process JSCC scholarships. Notify recipients. Monitor budgets; reconcile funds. Process third party requests for student financial aid information. Process/monitor TN Grants using TSAC’s system. Collaborate with Admissions/Business Office on award eligibility. - (Marginal)
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Marginal)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, and one year of financial aid (or related) experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and public relations communication skills; ability to effectively communicate using written and verbal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Banner database experience or knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to perform calculations related to financial aid information as needed.
  • Reasoning ability required in decision-making, advising and assisting students, applying relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations and performing various tasks.
  • Office administration, customer service, time management, organizational, and scheduling skills required. Must be able to exercise ethics and maintain confidentiality.

Pay Rate: $34,844 - $41,813 Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
