General Summary
Perform specific duties related to instruction; course and curriculum development; professional growth; service to students; and service to the college and community.
- Instruction: Teach the Computer Support Technician course at the Chattanooga campus. Facilitate the classroom instructional process; evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours.
- Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi; develop and maintain a site on the college’s Learning Management System (eLearn) for all instructional materials and tests.
- Professional Growth: Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
- Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; provide the academic and practicum technical education for preparing students for gainful employment in Information Technology upon their completion of the program; support student activities including SkillsUSA and NTHS.
- Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; complete the annual Council on Occupational Education (COE) report for the program. Perform other duties as assigned.
Holistic Student Support
- Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, TCAT Student Services, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services.
- Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.
Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices
- Provides equity-minded support in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Division that aligns with the College’s values.
- Embraces and promotes the College’s goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion and supports the TCAT Division’s efforts to utilize inclusive best practices.
- Provides equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
- Demonstrate teaching excellence by using evidence-based instructional practices that foster student learning.
- Engage to adapt, test, and refine new pedagogical approaches that fit Chattanooga State’s campus context.
- Structure student experiences to ensure equity, belongingness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life and co-curricular activities.
Position Requirements
- Technical diploma or equivalent degree in post-secondary education with credentials in Information Technology
- Three years of Computer Support experience within the last five years
- Microsoft Office Specialist and CompTIA A+ certifications
- Organizational and communication skills for effectively teaching, assessing and interacting with students and colleagues
- Areas of instruction include supporting end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and configuring and minor repair of mobile devices.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications
- Two years of Tier I Service Desk experience or end-user support
- Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach students

Salary: Commensurate with experience and according to salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Fall and Spring 7:45 AM – 2:30 PM
Summer 7:45 AM – 2:45 PM
