Position Summary
The Electrical Shop Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and performing the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems at the College. This work can be in the form of, but not limited to, work orders, in-house projects, and emergency repairs. This position ensures that all work is performed in compliance with federal and state safety regulations as well as local, state and federal electrical codes. The position resides within Plant Operations, and reports to the Executive Director of Plant Operations through the Director of Plant Operations. Employees in this class are under general supervision. Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
The Electrical Shop Supervisor will:
- Perform inspections of all electrical work performed at the college by both subordinates and third-party vendors.
- Supervise employees in the electrical trade.
- Repair electrical equipment (motors, controllers, starters, and potentially live 120/240 or 277/480 single to 3-phase circuits).
- Read and understand plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Install meters, conduit, wires, outlets, switches, etc.
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair various electrical systems and devices.
- Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Estimate costs, materials, and man-hours for projects.
- Inspect work performed by subordinates.
- Inspect systems for compliance with safety codes and standards.
- Prepare and present reports detailing work order and project status.
- Engage with leadership to discuss project timelines and issues.
- Work cooperatively with members of the campus community, vendors, supervisors and colleagues within Plant Operations.
- Adhere to procedures of Plant Operations as well as the policies of Chattanooga State and the Tennessee Board of Regents.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of safety procedures and compliance with NECA and NFPA codes/regulations related to working with electricity in the City of Chattanooga and State of Tennessee.
- Minimum of five years of electrical experience involving installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
- State Approved Electrical License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten years of general electrical experience.
- Supervisory experience. Minimum of 5 years preferred.
- Certified in infrared scanning.
Physical Requirements:
- Work on a ladder ranging from 6 to 16 feet in height.
- Lift 50 pounds safely and independently.
- Use special test equipment and common hand tools.
- Drive vehicle as necessary.
- Operate and work from boom and scissor lifts.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:
- Ability to plan and supervise electrical shop activities.
- Ability to inspect subordinate and third-party work products for completeness and quality.
- Ability to operate machines and tools of electrical trade.
- Promote, support and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
Projected Salary Range: $50,530 - $59,373 per year
