Campus Location: Walters State Community College Morristown Campus ***This position will be a travelling position with dual enrollment for Claiborne, Hancock and Grainger High Schools. (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The overall purpose of the Instructor of Mathematics is to teach college and learning support level mathematics courses.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach day and/or evening classes, both off and on campuses to include dual enrollment classes at area high schools in conventional and alternate delivery modes (e.g., web-based, virtual, accelerated schedule).
- Participate in advising, retention, and student success initiatives to support the WSCC Mission and Vision.
- Participate in curriculum development, student recruiting, departmental meetings and college committees.
- Complete goals and objectives for the individual and division in support of the WSCC Mission and Vision.
- Complete educational outcome measures and academic reporting as required.
- Participate in professional growth, leadership and community involvement to support the WSCC Mission and Vision.
- May perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in mathematics from a regionally
accredited institution. - Successful higher education or high school teaching experience in mathematics. (Graduate assistance experience is also accepted.)
- Experience working with graphing calculators, computerized instructional equipment and
materials, or mobile devices to enhance the learning experience. - Ability to communicate and develop effective interpersonal relationships with faculty,
staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or PhD. in Mathematics.
- Three years or more related teaching experience.

- Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.
- Works effectively with other faculty and administrators within the department, the division, and the college to provide well-developed courses and programs of study.
- Is a team player and contributes to the department and the division with new ideas and approaches, and uses professional development opportunities to expand instructional vision.
Leadership & Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to participate as part of a team in conjunction with other faculty and as a member of the Mathematics division.
Environment & Working Conditions:
- Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions.
- May be exposed to varying weather conditions when travelling.
Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):
- Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues.
- Operation of standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
- Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
- Travel to local areas may be required.
