GENERAL DUTIES: Adjunct instructors provide classroom support on an as-needed basis, sometime with little advance notice. This position should ensure student training is conducted utilizing all appropriate safety measures. The adjunct instructor will facilitate continued training for students in the absence of a full-time instructor. Potential applicants with varied work experience may qualify to facilitate in more than one program.

Minimum Qualifications

The Technology Foundations Instructor shall have a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Education or subject area to be taught from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years’ teaching experience.  The applicant shall have the ability to teach Basic Math, Reading Comprehension, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Blue Print Reading; shall have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; and shall be able to prove curriculum development experience in the area of basic skills for the adult learner; and have the ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.  The position will work under the supervision of the Instruction and Accreditation Vice President.   

Knowledge and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of the technical occupation being taught, considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of good teaching and supervision, as evidenced by a rating of education and experience.

Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co-workers; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, and to plan and direct the work of others; as evidenced by an interview with the appointing authority.

General Duties

The Technology Foundation Instructor is responsible to the institution administration and shall be responsible for planning, developing, and initiating an instructional program to complement the occupational-related preparatory needs of the student.  He/she shall present the program to meet the student’s preparatory needs, prepare visual aid materials, and work with the administrative staff to promote sound philosophy, and harmonious working relations among the entire college staff, the student body, and business/industry.  In addition, the technology instructor shall be responsible to the institutional administration for effective performance of his/her assigned responsibilities.

Specific Duties

Develop the following:

  • Develop an effective course of study, including experiments, job sheets, assignment sheets, information sheets, audio-visual aids and related materials which moves from the simple to the complex.
  • Coordinate with the instructors of each program area to develop courses of studies that complement and enhance the shop or classroom learning experience. 
  • Develop and execute student evaluations based on objectives of the course, including tracking of student progress.
  • Strive to develop in the student a positive attitude toward his training, fellow workers, future employers and encourage good work habits.
  • Develop a procedure for handling individual interests and problems of the students. 
  • Administer initial testing of new students in math and reading; share results of testing with program instructors.

To be responsible for:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Revise, add to, improve and keep up-to-date instructional programs related to changes in techniques used in the industrial and business field.
  • Examine, evaluate, and select textbooks and reference materials commensurate to the course being taught.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and clean shop and/or classroom.
  • Maintain student discipline at all times.
  • Select projects for their instructional value and make every effort to provide the student with work experience or cooperative training.
  • Maintain a fair, firm and friendly student relationship
  • Prepare, submit and file such reports as required by law, regulation or policy and be responsible for maintenance of all records, such as progress charts, attendance charts, monthly reports, etc.
  • Start and end class at designated time.
  • Review aptitude tests and personal records of students for a better understanding of his personal traits and may interview students prior to enrollment.
  • Impress upon students the importance of proper dress and general personal appearance as related to obtaining employment and progressing thereafter.
  • Provide for supervision of the class when it becomes necessary to leave the classroom or shop for any length of time.
  • Report promptly any student offense which requires the attention of the administration.
  • Participate in in-service training, workshops, and other programs which provide for professional growth.
  • Teach the Work Ethics curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as directed and assigned by the administration.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and according to salary guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

 SALARY: Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
