Job Summary:
Assist students, faculty, and staff with all areas of tutoring concerns in Mathematics, including one-on-one instruction, group workshops, diagnostic assessments, and designing individualized tutoring support.
Job Duties:
In conjunction with the Learning Commons staff and with the guidance of relevant academic departments, collaborate in the continued development of tutoring services in mathematics. Provide one-on-one and group tutoring services as needed. Serve as liaison to mathematics department and its faculty regarding mathematics tutoring services. Greet, interview, and obtain intake information from prospective and current students for assistance in the Learning Commons. Assist Director of Learning Commons with interviewing prospective Math instructional assistants and peer tutors. Serve as an academic coach, providing intentional, individual student support aimed at fostering academic student success. Assist with training and mentoring Mathematics instructional assistants and peer tutors. Offer support to the Learning Commons staff at all campus locations. Assist the Testing Center and Math department with administration of placement exams and other tests when requested. Review Learning Support placement results with students at the Gallatin campus and discuss options for completing Learning Support Math. Meet with students to discuss any math concerns and assessment results. Determine materials to be used for math students studying for the math placement test or the ACT. Using assessment results, develop an individualized program to address non-mastery skills and progression to the next level of math. Represent the Learning Commons in Math Department meetings as requested. Provide academic support to Learning Support Math courses held in the Learning Commons. Alternate and/or work evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of Vol State students. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or related area.
Two years of related experience.
Successful completion of minimum 3 hour college level Calculus course.
Preferred Qualifications:
Mathematics teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess the ability to be innovative, enthusiastic, creative, and flexible.
Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
Able to create a student-friendly atmosphere.
Excellent planning, design, coordinating, and time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Pay Rate: $43,888 - $44,782 annual salary depending on experience
