Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crump is accepting applications for the full-time position of Admissions Counselor / Recruiter in our Student Services Department at our campuses. This role will play a crucial part in furthering the college's vision and mission by actively recruiting prospective students and fostering a welcoming environment that prioritizes customer service excellence. Your efforts will contribute not only to recruitment and retention but also to job placement activities, ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

Job Duties

  • 100% - TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Student Engagement and Recruiting: The Counselor/Recruiter will create a welcoming, high-energy environment that fosters interaction among students and staff, ensuring that all individuals, including adult learners, feel valued and supported. This role involves providing exceptional customer service to all prospective and enrolled students at TCAT Crump locations, addressing their unique needs and concerns. The Counselor/Recruiter will actively participate in recruitment and retention efforts, including organizing and engaging in activities at local high schools, as well as outreach initiatives tailored to adult students. This may include hosting informational sessions, workshops, and one-on-one consultations to facilitate their transition into higher education. By recognizing the backgrounds and experiences of adult learners, the Counselor/Recruiter will strive to create pathways that encourage their participation and success in academic programs, ultimately contributing to a vibrant campus community.
  • Event Coordination and Orientation: This role involves assisting in the planning and execution of key campus events, including graduations, national signing days, open houses, and job fairs, to promote community engagement and student involvement. The Counselor/Recruiter will also provide personal, group, and individual orientation and counseling to help students define their career paths, understand admissions requirements, and navigate the Banner portal for admissions, registration, and financial aid processes.
  • Communication: The Counselor/Recruiter will manage outgoing communications with applicants regarding admissions, records, and financial aid, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination. They will also regularly update and maintain social and traditional media platforms, developing marketing materials and advertisements to enhance program visibility and outreach.
  • Community Networking and Support Services: This position involves establishing and maintaining networks with community agencies to promote TCAT Crump programs and connect with potential students. The Counselor/Recruiter will provide referrals for applicants and students to relevant agencies, addressing individual, educational, emotional, and physical needs, including assisting with the accommodations process for students with disabilities and support for veteran students.
  • Professional Development: Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current methodologies; attend scheduled college and department professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations.
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; work to meet and exceed COE standards. Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and follow TBR policies. The Counselor/Recruiter will ensure compliance with admission, registration, and financial aid regulations and policies to uphold institutional integrity and support student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work extra hours as needed to cover College events.
  • Travel between campuses will be required, along with some additional travel for events and training. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree required, preferred degree in business, education, marketing, or counseling (Master’s degree preferred)
2. Minimum of two years’ work experience in marketing, customer service, education, recruitment or related field
3. Ability to lead, plan and prioritize projects.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English with excellent public speaking and presentation skills
5. Detailed and results-oriented
6. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
7. Ability to work with diverse populations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Strong customer service skills; must possess effective oral and written communication skills to convey college information accurately and to present information to large groups and individuals effectively
2. Must have the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, audio/visual equipment, and software; and working knowledge of maintaining student records and/or sensitive information
3. Must have the ability to multitask with good organization and planning skills
4. Passionate belief in the power of education along with the desire to help students achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals
5. Ability to relate to a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
6. Ability to represent the College and division professionally with internal and external constituents to further the purpose, values, and mission of the College
7. Experience working with web pages and social media platforms
8. Plan and execute special projects and events in alignment with the goals and objectives of the college.
9. Develop, coordinate, and expand activities related to pre-admission orientation and other on-boarding communications and services.
10. Skill and ability to manage ongoing strategic communications with prospective students, parents and guests, high school and independent counselors, as well as college constituents, via email, letters, telephone, scheduled appointments, tours, and social media in order to relay accurate information regarding college programs, resources, and career options.
11. Plan, implement and evaluate student enrollment strategies, review methodologies, analyze data driven metrics to yield meaningful results.
12. Knowledge and ability to generate innovative approaches to increase awareness about Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crump to prospective student audiences and to increase enrollment and college completion.
