Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for a full-time Instructor position in the Aesthetics Evening Program. This faculty position is responsible to the Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation for the development, implementation, evaluation, modification, and operation of the Aesthetics program.

 

Job Duties

The position is responsible for providing individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adults and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field. The faculty member must monitor, grade, and evaluate individual student progress; maintain student records in the college’s student records management software; maintain appropriate documentation; submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates. The faculty member must work with Aesthetics Day program instructor to coordinate both day and evening programs to ensure curriculum continuity between both sections. Each Faculty member must also maintain good public relations with business and industry, maintain an active advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies. This position will also supervise and follow-up on students participating in cooperative education.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Active Tennessee License as Aesthetics and/or Cosmetology Instructor
  • Vocational or Technical School certification training or apprenticeship in Aesthetics required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Previous teaching experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of aesthetic practices that keep skin healthy, attractive, and well maintained as well as current trends and best practices in the industry.
  • Ability to design and implement effective lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring all students can engage with the material.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively conveying information, providing feedback, and engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Interpersonal skills to build rapport with students and create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters participation and confidence.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress, along with managing classroom activities and resources efficiently.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address classroom challenges and adapt instructional methods to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of cosmetology trends, tools, and technologies, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Mentoring skills to inspire and guide students in their career aspirations within the cosmetology field, providing support and encouragement as they develop their skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulations.
  • Basic computer skills to facilitate lesson planning, record-keeping, and communication.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, stand and work, with or without accommodation, to demonstrate and perform all work-based projects in a classroom and shop setting.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; use hands.
  • Use of computer.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and in other areas as needed.

 

SALARY: This is an exempt position.  Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
