Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for a full – time faculty position in the HVAC Evening Program. This faculty position is responsible to the Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation for the development, implementation, evaluation, modification, and operation of the HVAC/R program.

Job Duties

The position is responsible for providing individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adults and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field. The faculty member must monitor, grade, and evaluate individual student progress; maintain student records in the college’s student records management software; maintain appropriate documentation; submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates. The faculty member must work with HVAC/R Day program instructor to coordinate both day and evening programs to ensure curriculum continuity between both sections. Each Faculty member must also maintain good public relations with business and industry, maintain an active advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies. This position will also supervise and follow-up on students participating in cooperative education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in residential and/or commercial HVAC/R field.
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge in the following areas: safety, tools and materials, installation, troubleshooting, and repairing various HVAC systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or diploma from an accredited HVAC technical program.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • NATE Certification is preferred.
  • Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess computer skills.
  • Strong hands-on technical background in the field. Must possess industrial expertise in all phases of industrial, residential, and commercial HVAC systems to include installation and service. 
  • Must possess the communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adult students.
  • Must show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude.
  • Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
  • Requires initiative and cooperation, i.e., to plan and organize work without close supervision; show initiative and perseverance in satisfying student and community needs; have the ability and possess a desire to interact positively with other faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co‐workers.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Demonstrated abilities in leadership, human relations, communication skills (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
  • Possess good organizational, mathematical, language, writing and communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, stand and work, with or without accommodation, to demonstrate and perform all work-based projects in a classroom and shop setting.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; use hands.
  • Use of computer.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and in other areas as needed.

SALARY: This is an exempt position.  Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
