Job Duties

  • The instructor’s foremost duty is to meet the requirements of his/her monthly itineraries, as approved by the Program Coordinator.
  • The instructor will help develop program material as directed by the Program Coordinator.
  • The instructor will help maintain equipment and program records, including proper inventory and checkout procedures.
  • The instructor will relay the program needs and desires of the utility to the Program Coordinator and the Job Training and Safety Advisory Committee.
  • The instructor will collect student records in a timely manner to be maintained at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro.
  • Each instructor must aid in the proper presentation of workshops as directed by the coordinator.
  • The instructor shall maintain open communication with the Job Training and Safety Program Coordinator, Advisory Committee, and the utilities being served.
  • The instructor shall maintain competency by continuing their education and improving their job skills to stay abreast of industry needs and best practices.
  • The instructor shall take part in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro program as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and the TCAT Murfreesboro President.
  • The instructor will conduct safety meetings, compliance classes, and other training as required in their assigned area and with their assigned utilities and/or employers, as well as other training and compliance services as required by the program.
  • The instructor will operate daily from home and travel to various locations as needed to complete the assigned training and compliance services and will schedule their travel and appointments as necessary to provide their assigned services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must hold a Journeyman Skill Level in a related electric utility field worked in that skill area for a full five years beyond the journeyman level or have certification in the areas of safety or engineering.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of safety needs in the electric utility industry and show a desire to upgrade that knowledge through continuing education as trends in the industry require.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate with people appropriately and effectively, and to express ideas clearly.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and other computer skills is necessary through prior training or continuing education.
  • Must be self-motivated, be able to perform duties without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to travel within the respective service area, with occasional overnight stays in order to meet schedules arranged with their assigned utilities.

SALARY: This is an exempt position.  Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
