Job Summary

The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Initiatives provides strategic leadership in the development and implementation of innovative academic and workforce programs across the Tennessee Board of Regents system. This role collaborates with cross-functional and inter-divisional teams to conceptualize initiatives that align with institutional goals, workforce needs, and student success priorities.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor leverages technology to enhance operational efficiency and data-informed decision-making. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining dashboards, databases, and reporting tools; integrating Power BI and AI-related platforms; and utilizing project management software to track resources and timelines. The role leads and supports complex, multi-stakeholder projects from conception through execution, maintaining documentation, assessing impact, and reporting outcomes to system leadership.

The position also prepares briefings and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, collaborates with data teams across divisions, and integrates external data sources from agencies such as the Department of Labor (DOL), Department of Education (DOE), and Economic and Community Development (ECD) to inform program development and strategic planning.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Initiatives has systemic knowledge of the wide-ranging projects/programs/partnerships within TBR institutions and at the system office and advises system leadership regarding the same. The Assistant Vice Chancellor collaborates with institutional leaders, faculty, and external partners to support innovation and excellence in higher educational programming and demonstrates a personal commitment, with assistance from TBR leaders, to devote time to growing and developing as a leader and a colleague.

The salary range for this position is $99,612 - $126,829, depending on experience.

Job Duties

  • 25% - Programmatic Initiatives • Serve on cross-functional and inter-divisional teams in the development and implementation of innovative academic and workforce programs. • Collaborate with and support system offices and colleges to align new programs with existing curricula. • Stay current on trends in higher education, business & industry policy changes, and funding opportunities. • Contribute to grant-related activities that fund or support new academic and workforce initiatives. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Technology Applications • Design and maintain strategic initiative dashboards, databases, and reporting tools to monitor progress and performance metrics of academic and workforce programs. • Integrate technology solutions such as Power BI, AI, and other enterprise software to enhance data visualization, increase operational efficiency, and fully inform decision-making processes. • Utilize project management software and collaboration platforms to track timelines, personnel and fiscal resources, and workload capacities. • Ethically employ artificial intelligence programs to increase operational efficiencies - (Essential)
  • 25% - Project Management • Lead and support complex, multi-stakeholder projects from conception to execution, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic goals. • Maintain comprehensive project documentation. • Develop detailed project plans and schedules. • Monitor progress, assess impact, and employ risk mitigation strategies for initiatives in the Office of Academic Affairs. • Track implementation progress and report outcomes and status to system leadership. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Data and Reporting • Prepare briefings, reports, and presentations for sub-council and board meetings and various internal/external groups. • Collaborate with members of data teams across the Policy & Strategy and External Affairs divisions to improve information sharing practices. • Utilize/integrate external data sources from collaborative TN agencies such as DOL, DOE, and ECD to inform decision making and provide a comprehensive context for program development. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other Duties as Assigned • A personal commitment, with assistance from TBR leaders, to devote time to growing and developing as a leader and a colleague. Other duties as assigned. Fulfill ad hoc assignments of varying nature at the discretion of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree from a Regionally Accredited Institution
• Five (5) years of higher education experience, including full-time teaching and/or administrative experience or related workforce experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Administrative experience in higher education or workforce development
• Experience in academic and strategic planning, program and policy development, and leadership
