POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) serves as the Chief Academic Affairs officer of the College, responsible for the academic enterprise, including program development and assessment, teaching and learning assessment, faculty appointment, professional development, evaluation, tenure processes, and the development of academic policy and procedures. In alignment with the College’s purpose, mission and values, the VPAA sets the vision and mission for the Academic Affairs division and leads the division in the intentional pursuit of both. The VPAA works collaboratively with other division vice presidents to achieve the College’s purpose, mission, values, and vision and leads the College’s work in the area of teaching excellence. The VPAA reports to the College President.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS

Teaching Excellence

  • Serves as the Cabinet Lead for the Teaching Excellence strategic theme of the College’s Strategic Plan. In this role, the VPAA is responsible for the following:
    • Assists in defining the theme and aligning it to the College mission.
    • Appoints projects leads.
    • Holds periodic organizational and update meetings with project leaders and provides campus updates.
    • Monitors progress towards timelines.
    • Assists project leads in obtaining support and resources, as needed.
  • In alignment with the College’s purpose, values, mission, and vision, develops a vision for Academic Affairs that advances student access, excellence in teaching and learning, and student success across all academic divisions.
  • Strategically aligns improvements in the learning environment to broader College goals and efforts to advance students success in access, retention, completion, and post-graduation outcomes.
  • Advances teaching excellence and student learning through collaboration with outside entities, including employers, K-12 school systems, universities, and community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving student learning and success through strategic approaches to faculty appointment, professional development, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Stays current on the science of teaching, learning, and assessment, and evidence about optimal student success practices.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to evidence-based practice by using data to make decisions, celebrate successes, and communicate priorities. Regularly modifies strategies and programs to account for changing landscapes, policies, and student needs.

Holistic Student Support

  • In partnership with the Vice President of Student Affairs, leads the College’s Strategic Enrollment Management work. Uses environmental scan data to set the short-and long-term enrollment and retention goals for the College.
  • Leads the development of an academic schedule that facilitates student completion and success.
  • Collaborates with other division vice presidents to support student success both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Leads the academic student support efforts of the College, in alignment with the values of the College and in collaboration with other divisions.

Program Innovation

  • Collaborates with other division leaders to create innovative programs that respond to a rapidly changing educational and workforce environment.
  • Establishes, maintains, and maximizes connections to key workforce and education leaders in the College’s service area to stay current on key issues and projects to which the College can contribute.
  • Seeks alternate funding sources to implement innovative programs to strengthen teaching, learning, completion, and post-graduation success.

Fiscal Stewardship

  • Ensures the responsible fiscal stewardship of the funds allocated to the Academic Affairs Division.
  • Leads the development of Academic Affairs Division budgets, strategically aligning them to support the priorities of the College and the Division.
  • Ensures that investments in faculty release time reflect the College’s strategic priorities.
  • Ensures that the academic schedule and course enrollment maximize fiscal and physical resources.
  • Ensures the Academic Affairs organizational structure and the staffing levels are appropriate to achieve the College’s mission and are reflective of the College’s fiscal realities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws related to Academic Affairs functions.

Organizational Culture

  • Provides leadership for the Academic Affairs Division that aligns with the College’s values.
  • Embraces and promotes the College’s goals related to organizational culture.
  • Sets a vision for the professional development of faculty and staff in Academic Affairs that is aligned with the College’s purpose, values, mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Sets clear expectations of other Academic Affairs Division leaders and provides guidance and support for them in their work. Sets accountability measures that align with expectations and provide a cycle of feedback that focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Facilitates effective processes that engage academic leaders and faculty in organizational development, decision-making, and change.
  • Leads Academic Affairs policy review and development. Ensure policies reflect the purpose, values, mission, and vision of the College while meeting Federal, State and local laws as well as TBR policies and guidelines.
  • Ensures the integrity and accountability of academic programs by upholding professional and accreditation standards.
  • Leads the continuous review of Academic Affairs Division work, with emphasis on SACSOC compliance, in an effort to promote excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution, with 5-7 years of teaching experience in higher education.
  • Must have significant, increasingly responsible leadership experience in a college setting, with demonstrated experience leading change.

Salary Range: $120,659 - $156,856
