Position Title: Associate Practical Nursing Instructor

Job Summary: The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton is accepting applications for a Practical Nursing Associate Instructor at its main campus. The position is grant-funded, responsible for providing instruction and supervision for Practical Nursing students, with a primary focus on high school dual-enrollment learners participating in an accelerated healthcare career pathway program. Working in partnership with Ballad Health, this role delivers classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction; supports student skill development; and ensures a positive, professional learning environment. The instructor maintains accurate records, assists with program development and recruitment, and models the professional standards expected in the nursing field. This position is funded through December 31, 2026, with continuation dependent upon available grant funding.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Tennessee.
- Minimum of three (3) years of RN experience within the last five (5) years, OR
- two (2) years of RN experience within the last five (5) years plus 24 credit hours toward a higher nursing degree.
- Prior teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred.
- Must meet all requirements established by clinical sites (subject to change at the discretion of the clinical sites).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, good character, and a mature, positive attitude.
- Commitment to remaining current in the nursing profession and maintaining active RN licensure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, TEAMS, and related software applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Student Support
- Teach and supervise nursing students in simulation labs, on-campus classrooms, and off-campus clinical settings.
- Reinforce knowledge, skills, and competencies required for entry-level employment as a Practical Nurse.
- Monitor and report student progress; maintain a positive, engaging learning environment.
- Provide support, tutoring, and academic assistance as needed.
- Model professional behaviors, communication, and ethical standards expected in the nursing field.
Program Administration & Compliance
- Maintain confidential, accurate, and complete student and program records on paper and electronically.
- Complete all required reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate in ongoing curriculum development and program improvement activities.
- Assist with student recruitment and graduate placement initiatives.
- Maintain and engage an active advisory committee.
- Comply with all clinical site requirements and policies.
Partnership & Dual Enrollment Focus
- Collaborate with Ballad Health to support high school dual-enrollment students.
- Facilitate student skill development through classroom education, career exploration, and readiness for healthcare pathways.
- Serve as an instructional and professional role model for high school learners entering the Practical Nursing track.
Other Duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned to support program goals and institutional mission.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Minimum of 37.5 hours per week at an approved campus work site.
- Clinical hours vary based on site requirements and student scheduling.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Walking, bending, sitting, and squatting in order to operate campus equipment.
- Able to use body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
- Communicating for brief periods.
- Sitting at a computer for extended periods to enter data.
- Requires concentrated mental and visual attention, i.e., see at close range.
- Operating a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and in other areas as needed.
- Lifting at least 20 lbs.

SALARY RANGE:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience
according to established TBR salary guidelines. Salary range: $55,983 - $67,181.
