JOB SUMMARY
The Math Lab Student Tutor provides academic support to individual students and small groups in mathematics-related subjects. The position is open to students currently enrolled and actively pursuing a two- or four-year degree. The role requires ability to adjust tutoring approaches to meet the learning needs of each student and promote academic success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide one-on-one and small-group, in-person tutoring to help students understand mathematical concepts at all levels.
- Use a variety of instructional and tutoring strategies to support different learning needs and styles.
- Monitor students during testing sessions as assigned.
- Encourage, motivate, and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement to promote confidence and academic success.
EQUIPMENT
- Perform tasks using personal computers and peripheral devices.
- Operate and maintain (if applicable) office equipment such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners to support daily workflow.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge in Statistics, Precalculus, and/or Calculus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to clearly communicate subject matter material(s).
- Ability to work with virtual meeting platforms.
- Good organization and time management.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
- Must have earned a grade of A or B in the relevant course (e.g., an A in MATH 1530 Introductory Statistics to tutor in statistics).
- Valid driver’s license.
JOB LOCATION
This is an on-site position with the primary workplace in the Math Lab located in the Adkisson Administration Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
