Job Summary
The Instructional Designer is responsible for the development and maintenance of interactive online courseware for academic and workforce products. The Instructional Designer is responsible for facilitating course development processes; utilizing course development templates and standards, instructional design methodologies, and best practices to develop high quality, engaging, ADA/508 compliant, interactive, fully functional online courses. Additionally, the Instructional Designer is responsible for conducting quality assurance reviews and managing updates to course content to ensure adherence to DLC standards.
Job Duties
- 60% - Use the DLC instructional design process and industry best practices to design and develop quality, engaging, and interactive online courses in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), graphic designers, multimedia specialists, and other personnel. - (Essential)
- 15% - Provide consultation and training to partners on instructional design, course development processes, and related technologies. - (Essential)
- 10% - Evaluate new and existing courses on a rotating basis to determine opportunities for continuous quality improvement. - (Essential)
- 10% - Identify, test, install, configure and help troubleshoot a variety of applications to support and enhance online courses. - (Essential)
- 5% - Other duties as assigned. - (Marginal)
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years experience with course development software and learning management systems
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field
• Minimum 3 years instructional design experience in post-secondary at an accredited institution
• Online teaching experience
• Experience designing or delivering workforce training
• Experience utilizing a CRM
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of learning theory, adult learning, and assessment principles, and approaches to online pedagogy and facilitation
• Skill in designing, developing, and evaluating online learning programs
• Skill in the use of course management systems (e.g., Desire to Learn, Canvas, Moodle, or Rise 360)
• Skill in the use of productivity software, multimedia authoring tools, collaborative tools, content management systems, and digital learning materials
• Knowledge of HTML and CSS
• Complex problem solving skills, particularly related to technology troubleshooting
• Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation
• Excellent presentation skills and the ability to facilitate student, faculty, and staff group meetings of all types
• Professional written and oral communication skills
• Ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative working partnerships
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moving parts and strong deadlines
• Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects both independently and in teams
