Job Title: Vice President for Communication and Marketing
Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The Vice President for Communications and Marketing provide visionary leadership for the College’s institutional communications, marketing, branding, and public relations strategy. This role is responsible for advancing the College’s image, reputation, and engagement with all audiences and across all platforms.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develops and implements a comprehensive, integrated communications and marketing plan that supports the College’s mission and goals. Provides strategic direction for all areas, including advertising, media relations, website management, digital marketing, publications, social media, printing services, photography, and video production.
- Leads and coordinates institutional responses to critical issues and crisis situations to ensure clear, consistent, and timely communication.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders — including faculty, staff, media, alumni, and community leaders—to enhance storytelling, collaboration, and outreach.
- Serves as a key member of the College’s Executive Leadership Team and actively participates on committees to shape institutional strategy and direction.
- Provides leadership for departmental operations, including budget management, personnel supervision, policy development, project planning, and procurement activities.
- Evaluates institutional communication efforts for consistency, clarity, and impact. Establishes best practices to align messaging, eliminate redundancy, and enhance audience engagement.
- May perform related duties that support the mission and strategic objectives College.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a closely related field
- Seven to eleven years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or a related leadership position.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic marketing, media relations, and public relations.
- Proficiency in digital and graphic design tools, including Adobe Creative Cloud, and competence in standard office technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Executive or senior leadership experience within a higher education or nonprofit organization.
- Prior management experience in a communications or public relations agency setting.

Leadership and Supervisory: The incumbent oversees the Communications and Marketing department, including eight full-time staff members and student workers. The role operates independently, exercising significant judgment in setting departmental goals, recommending policy, and advancing college-wide initiatives. Work is reviewed based on long-term outcomes and measurable impact.
Environment & Working Conditions: Standard office environment with occasional variations in temperature and light levels.
Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):
- Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues. Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
- Occasional travel to local or regional events involving WSCC could be necessary.
