Job Summary

Reporting to the Director for Advising, the Lead Mentor/ Success Coach is responsible for coaching and mentoring students referred through the Academic Student Alert Program and those who request a coach. They respond to student and institutional retention and success needs and develop and implement intervention and success strategies for students in collaboration with other college offices. They also coach and mentor students with successful academic dismissal appeals.

Job Duties

  • Support the Student Alert program through coaching and student case management. 
  • Build relationships with students using academic coaching techniques. 
  • Provide individualized support by working one-on-one with students. 
  • Support students in their adjustment to campus life. 
  • Introduce students to campus support services. 
  • Provide a supplemental coaching component and assist students with time management and study skills. 
  • Provide academic advising to students. 
  • Build relationships with peers. 
  • Develop and deliver classroom presentations. 
  • Complete other assignments as directed by supervision. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution 

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of higher education experience in advising, mentoring, coaching, or tutoring students (in small groups or individually)  
  • Conversational ability or fluency in a second language 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems 
  • Knowledge of campus programs & services 
  • Knowledge of TBR and institutional policies 
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Effective skills in interpersonal relations including tact and diplomacy.  
  • Understanding of the comprehensive community college philosophy. 
  • In all duties assigned, show a commitment to customer service to include students, college employees, and the community served by Northeast State.
