JOB SUMMARY
The Recruiter is responsible for planning, implementing, and executing marketing and recruitment strategies to enhance new student enrollment at the college. This role involves advising prospective students and their families about admissions, financial aid, career pathways, dual enrollment, and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) opportunities. The Recruiter oversees targeted recruitment efforts in specific counties, fosters positive relationships with high school staff, and assists with Dual Enrollment processes. The Recruiter represents the college at community events, promoting programs such as Tennessee Promise and Reconnect, while maintaining a positive image among stakeholders. Communication and counseling are key aspects of the role, providing guidance on enrollment procedures and program offerings through various channels. The Recruiter coordinates events and activities to attract a broad range of student populations and works closely with student ambassadors to ensure effective outreach and engagement. This position plays a pivotal role in driving enrollment initiatives, managing communication strategies, and fostering a welcoming environment for prospective students. The Recruiter also integrates career community engagement and workforce analysis, utilizing labor market platforms to align academic pathways with high-demand career fields. This position serves the Cleveland State main college campus in Cleveland, Tennessee, the college’s McMinn Higher Education Center (MHEC) location in Athens, Tennessee, and the college’s Monroe Center location in Vonore, Tennessee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS
- Associates degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in areas of student success, or a related field including any combination of:
- Admissions processes (e.g., guiding students through application procedures, reviewing submitted materials, assisting with student enrollment forms, etc.).
- Academic advising (e.g., helping students select courses, develop degree plans, assist in setting educational or career goals, etc.).
- Student support services (e.g., coordinating/providing tutoring, academic coaching, financial aid services, etc.).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recruitment Coordination (30%)
- Plan, oversee and implement marketing and recruitment strategies and events to maximize new student enrollment.
- Coordinate recruitment activities for all target groups, such as, general public, traditional, non-traditional, parent, middle school, and assist in Veteran student efforts.
- Serve as the point of contact for service area high schools for dual enrollment and traditional students.
- Serve as a point of contact for the college’s service area industries, adult education centers, and other non-traditional populations.
- Coordinate student activities from inquiry to enrollment.
- Assist with Dual Enrollment processes and promote the program.
- Maintain awareness of campus life activities and advise students of opportunities to become socially engaged with peers at the College.
- Assist students and families with FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completion.
- Use labor market data (e.g., Lightcast) to help align academic programs with high-demand careers.
- Participate and support initiatives within career communities through targeted activities.
- Maintain an awareness of potential noncredit workforce development opportunities.
- Increase student awareness of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) opportunities by informing them of eligibility criteria, available credit options, and the benefits of PLA in their educational journey.
Outreach, Communication and Representation (25%)
- Represent the college at various outreach events, such as community fairs.
- Promote the college and coordinate Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect events, and FAFSA events.
- Represent the college to various stakeholder groups and communities, including prospective students and families, alumni, community organizations, and industry partners.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with school staff and administration, such as high schools, private schools, PIE Center, and other community partners.
- Use prospect and applicant Argos reports to pull and convert prospects to applicants to admitted students. Routinely use the report as a contact strategy to navigate prospects/applicants through the enrollment processes.
- Communicate with prospective students through various channels and follow up on inquiries.
- Counsel prospective students in clarifying educational, career and personal developmental goals.
- Advise and counsel applicants with general and specific information about the enrollment processes, programs, and services.
- Work with the Marketing department to design a Communication Plan for prospective students and applicants.
- Maintain marketing materials including brochures, t-shirts, viewbooks, etc.
Program Implementation (25%)
- Design tailored services to address challenges and barriers for adults, and other non-traditional student populations.
- Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive resource guide that addresses basic needs such as housing insecurity, food access, emregency shelter, transportation, and other student support services.
- Create, implement, and conduct recruitment activities, and log outcomes, pitfalls, and successes of the activities
- Coordinate recruitment activities for all student populations, including but not limited to, Campus Tours, Open House, Program Showcase, Cougar Days, and Halloween on Wheels.
- Develop, coordinate and assist with on-campus special events, college-sponsored events and other activities at the college.
Student Ambassador Point of Contact and Information Sessions (15%)
- Serve as the point of contact for Student Ambassadors.
- Conducts detailed information sessions and tours for groups and individuals visiting the college.
- Assists in Managing the CSCC Admissions and Recruitment social media accounts to provide updates and information.
Non-Essential Functions (5%)
- Actively participate in college functions as required by the supervisor.
- Serve on various college committees as approved by supervisor.
- The Recruiter will be required to meet those standards now required, or which in the future may be required by the Tennessee State Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
- The appointee may be required to achieve additional skill, knowledge, or credential levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). to create documents, manage data, prepare reports, and support daily operations.
- Ability to initiate and manage program planning and assessment.
- Knowledge of community college operations and concepts.
- Understanding of college recruitment strategies and best practices.
- Experience planning and executing events, such as community fairs and college visits.
- Ability to identify challenges in the recruitment process and develop creative solutions to ensure successful implementation of initiatives.
- Preferred experience:
- Experience with Banner software applications.
- Experience in college admissions/recruitment or related fields.
WORK ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT
Work activities routinely involve the use of standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, telephones, and other related devices. Employees are expected to perform tasks such as data entry, document preparation, email communication, and report generation using these tools.
JOB LOCATION
This on-site position is based in the Recruitment Department located in the Student Affairs Building on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. Occasional travel to off-campus instructional sites within the College’s five-county service area, as well as state and national conferences, may be required. Travel across the service region for meetings and other activities is also expected.
