Job Summary

Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for a full-time Human Resources Support Associate at the Knoxville main campus. This role is designed to be highly welcoming, employee-centered, and student-centered, providing supportive, front-line HR assistance to faculty and staff while helping ensure a positive experience across all TCAT Knoxville locations. The position serves as a friendly point of contact for HR-related questions, updates, and processes, with working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (37.5 hours per week).

Job Duties

Human Resources:

The position supports day-to-day Human Resources operations by assisting with employee onboarding, enrollment, and orientation for all new hires. Responsibilities include completing Electronic Personnel Action Forms (EPAFs) for employee changes and updates in Banner, maintaining accurate personnel files, processing appointments for new faculty/staff and temporary employees, and preparing annual renewal letters and temporary contracts.

The role also assists with monthly payroll processing and reconciliation, supports annual benefits activities such as new and annual enrollment, and helps employees with retirement, benefits, and related personnel updates. In support of these functions, the position gathers budget-related information and uses Excel spreadsheets to compile data, track status, and support reporting.

In addition, the position assists with recruitment activities, including job postings, attending job fairs, and scheduling interviews, coordinating with interview committees, and supports annual employee training tracking for Title VI and Title IX.

The role contributes to internal and external personnel-related reports and surveys (e.g., IPEDS, TBR, State of Tennessee, Title VI, Title IX, and THEC) and ensures monthly leave reports and employee timesheets are submitted and balanced with leave requests. It also requires attendance at TBR meetings and training while maintaining a working knowledge of institutional and federal policies and COE accreditation standards, including FERPA and the ADA.

Service to the College and Community:

Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation activities, attend convocation and commencement exercises, and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues and industry partners; work to meet COE accreditation standards. Cooperate with outside agencies; establish and maintain good public relations with the school’s general public.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus.

Occasional travel may be required to attend information sessions, recruitment events, meetings, or department needs to all campus locations or training off-site. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required, along with a post-secondary technical diploma or an Associate’s degree. The position also requires a minimum of five years of related work experience. Strong working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets is preferred to support data compilation, tracking, and reporting.

• Experience in higher education and/or human resources

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

This position often involves a combination of the following potential physical demands:

  • Sedentary desk work - Sitting for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, reading, writing, etc.
  • Light physical activity - Walking around campus, standing for meetings or interactions, light lifting/carrying of files or supplies.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying - Moving boxes, equipment, or other items that may weigh up to 15 lbs.

Ability to navigate campus environments - Walking up/downstairs, traversing uneven surfaces, etc.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to the Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines within the range of $34,939 - $43,673.
