Industrial Electricity Support Associate Instructor

Job Summary:             The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton is accepting applications for a dedicated and knowledgeable Associate Support Instructor – for the Industrial Electricity program. The Associate Support Instructor will assist in delivering high-quality instruction to students, developing the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required for careers in industrial electrical systems. This position plays a key role in reinforcing classroom instruction, supporting lab activities, and ensuring a safe, effective learning environment. While this position primarily supports the INE program, the Associate Support Instructor may be expected, from time to time, to provide instructional coverage or support for other instructors within related mechanical trades areas, as needed.

 

The ideal candidate will bring professional field experience, a passion for teaching, and the ability to support diverse learners in both theoretical and practical learning environments.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an electrical field (industrial, commercial, or related)
  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate degree or technical certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical systems, controls, wiring, and troubleshooting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying skill levels and backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Industry certifications or licensure in the electrical field
  • Experience with industrial controls, PLCs, and automation systems
  • Prior teaching, mentoring, or training experience
  • Familiarity with competency-based or workforce-focused training programs
  • Experience working in a classroom or lab environment
  • Basic computer skills for instructional and reporting purposes

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the primary instructor with classroom and laboratory instruction in Industrial Electricity courses
  • Provide individual and small-group student support during lab activities and practical assessments
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize lab equipment, tools, and instructional materials
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures in lab environments
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead instructor
  • Support grading, recordkeeping, and other instructional documentation as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully functional lab environment
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies in industrial electrical systems
  • Occasionally provide classroom or lab coverage in the absence of the lead instructor or assist in other related technical programs as needed
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, and workplace readiness among students
  • Participate in program meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Instructional hours are 7:30 am-3:30 pm.
  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week at an approved campus work site.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Combination of classroom and hands-on laboratory settings
  • Standing, lifting, bending, and working in confined or elevated spaces may be required
  • Adherence to safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.

SALARY RANGE:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience

according to established TBR salary guidelines. Salary range: $56,263 - $67,517.
