Job Summary
This is a temporary, part-time, grant-funded position within the TRIO Upward Bound Department. The Math teacher provides instructional support for high school students during Saturday Academy and supports the participant’s learning, advancement, and understanding of academic content through project-based learning and assignments.
Job Duties
- Teach students learning strategies for an academic math class (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus/Calculus).
- Conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, props, and other learning aids.
- Prepare and submit a course syllabus prior to the start of the class, assist with the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities.
- Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management.
- Make recommendations on students' strengths and needs.
- Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel.
- The instructor is required to attend training and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level.
- Complete a background clearance check.
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program.
- Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- TRIO Upward Bound works with youth in grades 9th-12th.
- We attend on and off campus events and college tours.
