Job Summary
Reporting to the Writing Center Coordinator, the Writing Center Advanced Tutor is responsible for tutoring students on an appointment and walk-in basis. The Advanced Tutor is responsible for general office administration of the Writing Center, which may include schedule and calendar maintenance, training work-study students, and general on-campus marketing.
Job Duties
- Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- Assist students with building their writing skills.
- Schedule tutoring appointments as requested.
- Answer phone and email inquiries from students and faculty regarding the Writing Center.
- Assist the Writing Center Coordinator with maintaining office records, scheduling, internal marketing, promotion, and outreach.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a closely related field from an accredited institution
Experience teaching or tutoring English at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in English or a closely related field from an accredited institution
At least two years of experience teaching English at the college level
Conversational ability or fluency in a second language
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Technology Skills: MS Office Suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems; Adobe software
• Capable of maintaining empathy, positivity, patience, and professionalism
