Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Community Outreach Coordinator/ Case Manager will serve as a member of Stockton’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team. The Coordinator will facilitate students’ connections to clinical and non-clinical mental health resources throughout the State of New Jersey. An investment of resources in hiring a Community Outreach Coordinator/Case Manager, will provide a conduit to help students’ access to resources in the community and provide them with a confidential space to access clinical and non-clinical resources on campus.

The Mental Health in Higher Education: Community Provider Partnerships Grant will expand existing services that are provided by Stockton University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Outreach Promotion and Education (HOPE), and Student Health Services (SHS) by enhancing campus strategic planning partnerships and facilitating students’ access to clinical mental health providers off-campus.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages communication between the Counseling and Psychological Services, campus partners and community partners regarding:

  • Availability/accessibility and the value/utility of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to the campus community
  • Counseling services offered by CAPS (including clinical, consultative, and outreach services)
  • Counseling services information requests from campus partners (i.e., programs, tabling events, consultations, training sessions, etc.)

CAPS staff recruitment to participate in requested outreach activities and coordinate staff assignments related to:

  • Participating in orientation or other events related to educating students, family members, faculty, and staff about counseling center services
  • Staffing tabling events such as health fairs, departmental resources fairs, mental health awareness initiatives/screening events, etc.
  • Serving on expert panels at events sponsored by other departments or student organizations
  • Meeting requests for programs related to mental health, student development, or campus life topics
  • Partnering with colleagues in other departments with overlapping goals and missions related to student service and student development
  • Maintaining liaison-relationships (or coordinating counseling center staff liaison-relationships) with colleagues in other departments
  • Maintaining liaison-relationships with external community partners such as Mental Health Association, AtlantiCare and various other agencies in the community
  • Collaborating on joint multi-department programming, supporting mission of Student Affairs or other administrative communities in fulfillment of counseling center mission
  • Collecting and organizing evaluations of outreach activities for use by the director or other administrative colleagues overseeing assessment and evaluation of the center
  • Provide multiculturally sensitive brief counseling for individuals with diverse presenting concerns
  • Assist with CAPS walk-in/crisis sessions as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work independently, track progress and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with mental health education
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or other mental health field from an accredited college
  • Two years of case management experience
  • Experience providing short term outpatient clinical services
  • Flexible schedule, some evening hours and weekends required

Education
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree supplemented by a Master’s degree in a field related to the position to be filled or an equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.

Experience
Two years professional experience in an institution of higher education or in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.  The minimum education experience standards for positions classified under this class title will vary depending upon the requirements of the specific position to be filled.  In each case, these minimums will be determined at the discretion of the appointing authority.  Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.)  A Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA, MS in social work, counseling, clinical / counseling psychology or related field
  • Knowledge in grants management, administration writing and contract funding
