Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Philosophy & Religion program at Stockton University invites applications for a full-time (10-month) Non-Tenure Track Position (NTTP) to join its faculty, beginning fall semester 2025.  This position will be for a one-year appointment.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to be engaged as scholar, teacher, advisor, and mentor while fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that engages diverse learners.

  • Teach 32 credits in Philosophy undergraduate courses (4 classes per semester at 4 credits each).  Possible courses include Introduction to Philosophy, Symbolic Logic, Ethics: Theory and practice, Advanced Moral Theories, African-American Philosophy, Pragmatism, Environmental Philosophy
  • Develop new courses in emerging areas of applied ethics and other areas of interest (e.g., ethics of AI)
  • Mentor students in independent study projects
  • Additional committee assignments

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in philosophy by the time of appointment (Ph.D. in related fields considered).  ABD candidates will be hired as an Instructor at the Instructor Salary until degree is completed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of teaching at all levels of undergraduates with a diverse student population
  • The successful applicant will have an active research agenda in applied ethics and/or other area of interest, commensurate with their experience level, and will have a promising agenda for future scholarship
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies, teaching across diverse disciplines, and incorporating technology into teaching and learning
  • Experience in digital humanities and public-facing philosophy is also desired
