About the Department:

The LLM (Master of Laws) Program provides the opportunity to earn an advanced degree in law to students who have earned a JD from a US law school or a law degree from outside of the US. The JM (Juris Masters) Program provides legal training in a specific skill area relevant to legal professionals who do not intend to become lawyers.

About the Position:

The Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions is the lead administrator working with recruitment and matriculation of the law school’s online and hybrid LLM and JM degree programs. The school currently offers the following programs in hybrid and online formats: Juris Masters (JM) program (available with 6 concentrations), LLM in Global Antitrust Law and Economics; LLM in US Law; LLM in Cyber, Intelligence, & National Security Law; and the Flex LLM in US Law: Accelerated DC Bar Prep.

This position reports to the Director of Graduate Admissions and International Initiatives and is responsible for the growth of applications for hybrid and online LLM Programs. The candidate will have a passion for mentoring students and for marketing and expanding academic programs. The position requires excellent communication and leadership skills, extensive intercultural competency, and a talent for recruiting prospective applicants. As many LLM applicants come from overseas, the position may require some international travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors with a keen attention to detail the student journey across all programs to ensure timely and accurate application processing; 
  • Conducts LLM and JM admissions processes including application revisions/updates, application review, applicant interviews, and prospective applicant inquiry responses;
  • Serves as a liaison between students and the Financial Aid department regarding questions and policies for FAFSA student aid;
  • Acts in the role of records custodian, is responsible for managing application documents of record in accordance with established procedures;
  • Provides exceptional customer service to a diverse pool of applicants regardless of language and cultural backgrounds including maintaining some office hours accessible to Asian and Middle Eastern time zones;
  • Works with the Director of Graduate Admissions and Director of Academic Advising to organize a vibrant program of professional and social activities for LLM students and coordinates event logistics in relation to orientation;
  • Maintains knowledge of the application process for international lawyers seeking to sit for bar exams in U.S. jurisdictions;
  • Assists with material creation for specialized marketing for LLM and JM programs, including identifying needs for review, updating web materials, and monitoring advertising; and
  • Other duties related to the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications:;

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Considerable admissions experience;
  • Some international travel;
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills that exhibit an ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a range of communication channels with diverse groups of students, faculty, administrators, staff, and members of the bench and bar from a wide range of backgrounds;
  • Proficiency with Indesign, Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Law degree from an ABA accredited law school, (JD, LL.M., JM or equivalent);
  • Experience in legal education admissions or other university affairs settings;
  • Professional experience recruiting; and
  • Fluency in multiple languages, particularly Korean.
